Life is full of unexpected events that could cause harm to you or your family. You won’t know when these events may happen, which is why you must be prepared for disaster management. You could be a victim of a car accident, theft, robbery, medical emergency or natural disaster, which is why you should do what you can to be safe. Being prepared can mean multiple things, but one thing you should always have is emergency kits. Many companies sell and use pre-made kits to make it easier to for people to be prepared for disasters.
What’s Included
Parabellum International recommends that you design your own kit or pick up a pre-packaged one that includes first-aid kits, flashlights with batteries, and pre-moistened towels/antibacterial liquid.
Likewise, you should prepare your home for disasters and have non-perishable food, can openers to open the food, and water. You never know what’s going to happen with the water supply in your area, which is why each person in the home should have at least three gallons of water stored for sanitation and drinking purposes. Three gallons should be enough for one person to drink enough for three days (one gallon per day).
Other Things To Include
While it may not be a necessity, you should consider having a hand-crank or battery-powered weather radio or traditional radio so you can hear important updates and information. Likewise, you may want a whistle or other noise maker readily available, in case you are trapped inside your home and need to let rescuers know you’re inside.
Other options can include maps, cell phones, dust masks and more. If you live in an area prone to chilly weather, you may also want to store blankets in an easily accessible place or use space blankets.
